GITEGA, August 2 (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, presented the new governor of Gitega province, Mr. Liboire Bigirimana, to the population on Thursday, July 31, 2025. The related ceremonies took place at Ingoma Stadium in the presence of the province’s population.

In his address promoting moral values, the Head of State stated that Burundi is now a peaceful country where citizens no longer view each other as enemies but as brothers and sisters. According to him, the proof lies in the recent elections, which were won by the CNDD-FDD party. He emphasized that the country needs exemplary leaders who inspire the population through their actions. “A leader must always take actions that citizens can emulate,” he stressed.

He also stated that an ineffective governor will not be able to carry out his duties for long. For this reason, he encouraged the governor of Gitega to work closely with the population and raise awareness among citizens about the negative effects of drug use. He also urged him to fight against injustice and corruption in order to build a prosperous Burundi. President Ndayishimiye also asked him to plan visits to at least three communes each week to stay in touch with the population and to directly oversee administrative work. “The hope is that authorities work closely with the population. It is up to the leader to show the way,” said Mr. Ndayishimiye.

According to President Ndayishimiye, the governor must ensure the protection of state interests, respect for citizens, and maintain a strong presence on the ground. He urged leaders, especially governors, to leave a positive legacy by developing their administrative unit to at least twice its previous level. To that end, he congratulated the former governors of the former provinces of Gitega, Mwaro, Muramvya, and Karusi for their development efforts and invited them to advise the new governor in a spirit of collaboration to ensure the development of this enlarged province. “A governor must do everything possible to ensure the well-being of his constituents, as he is the representative of the Head of State in his province,” President Ndayishimiye reminded.

He called on all Burundians to have a vision, to lighten the burden of leadership, and to take ownership of agriculture and livestock farming. He also called for the fight against delinquency, drug use, vices that destroy families, and absenteeism, in order to implement together the 2040-2060 vision. Based on this, President Ndayishimiye urged security officials to work effectively with governors and not tolerate those who disturb public order.

In his speech, the new governor of Gitega committed to strictly following all the directives given by the Head of State and to loyally serve the citizens. He called for collaboration so that development would be a collective effort.

Note that Governor Bigirimana informed the President of the Republic that he had already recently engaged in the fight against fraud, particularly concerning beverages produced by the Brarudi company, in collaboration with the administration and security forces, and that the results were very encouraging.
