CANKUZO, Feb 16 (ABP) – The ministry of labor, public service and social security, through the permanent executive secretariat of the national social protection commission, organized in Buhumuza province, with funding from UNICEF, a workshop to popularize the national social protection policy and its implementation strategy. This took place on Wednesday, February 12, 2026.

The permanent Executive Secretary of the national social protection commission, Mr. Arcade Nimubona, indicated that the government of Burundi created the social protection policy in 2011 and its implementation strategy four years later as part of sustainable development.

He highlighted the preparation and implementation of the MERANKABANDI project, which aims to support vulnerable households in their development. According to Mr. Arcade, a social protection code was also established in 2020, replacing the social security code that dated back to 1999.

Thus, the national social protection policy and its implementation were launched in 2024 and will run until 2033. The latter ensures protection for all and aligns with Vision 2040-2060.

He invited participants to redouble their efforts in raising awareness among the population so that they can take ownership of it.
