BUBANZA, November 15th (ABP) – On the morning of Wednesday November 13, 2024, the 18th edition of the 2024 peace torch from Bubanza province was welcomed at the border between the communes of Mutimbuzi (Bujumbura) and Rugazi (Bubanza) by the governor of Bujumbura province, Désiré Nsengiyumva, and handed over to him by the governor of Bubanza, Cléophace Nizigiyimana. The handover took place in the presence of the Intwararumuri and the population of the two communes. The torch was then taken to Maramvya III Basic School, where it illuminated the work of mixing gravel and cement to pave three of the school’s classrooms.

The administrator of the Mutimbuzi commune, Siméon Butoyi, has indicated that the population of Mutimbuzi has been warned and is preparing to enter the enlarged Ntahangwa commune, where it will be working on road improvement projects. In that town, which is growing overnight, the aim is to build multi-storey schools to accommodate the growing number of young people whose parents have moved to the Maramvya area, and whose numbers are doubling every year.

According to Bujumbura Governor Désiré Nsengiyumva, in addition to the development projects in the Maramvya zone, he highlighted the land problems in that area, where people want to usurp state property.

He pointed out that that dispute is known to the Ministry in charge of regional planning. He added that, given Mutimbuzi’s location on the country’s border and in relation to Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, the government must make special arrangements to ensure that visitors have a good appreciation of Burundi.

He raised the issue of compensation for the people living in the 160 ha near the presidency and those living in the eastern part of the presidency, who should be compensated.

He took the opportunity to ask the president of the Intwararumuri, Epipode Baranyikwa, to pass on the population’s concerns to the President of the Republic.

Baranyikwa promised to pass everything on to whoever was entitled without taking anything away, asking Mutimbuzi’s administrators and intellectuals to record those projects in written form and plans, admitting that such projects will be financed within the framework of vision 2040-2060.
