BUJUMBURA/BURUNGA/BUTANYERERA/BUHUMUZA, July 25 (ABP) – As scheduled in the electoral calendar, the newly elected communal councillors gathered on Thursday, July 24, 2025, in the headquarters of each commune to elect the communal administrators.
In Bujumbura province, in the commune of Bukinanyana, the newly elected administrator is Isaac Niyokwizera (Hutu). The new president of the communal council of Bukinanyana is Marie Kana; the vice-president is James Samagorwa; and the secretary is Pascal Ngendakumana. In the commune of Cibitoke, also in the same province, Éloge Najeneza (Tutsi) was elected as the communal administrator. The new president of the communal council is Alain Sindabizi; the vice-president is Jean Claude Nshimirimana, while Néema Nibitanga (Twa) was elected as secretary of the communal council. In the commune of Mugina, the newly elected communal administrator is Anicet Saïdi (Hutu). The communal council will be headed by Narcisse Ntihabose; his deputy is Adeline Manirambona, and the secretary of the council is Gédéon Havyarimana.
In Burunga province, in the commune of Rumonge, during the same session, Augustin Minani was reappointed unanimously (100%) as administrator by the members of the communal council. Gaudence Nizigiyimana was elected president of the communal council of Rumonge for a five-year term. She will be assisted by Ndagijimana Samuel, elected vice-president, and Mfisumukiza Alexandre, elected secretary. In the commune of Bururi, the position of president of the communal council is held by Patrice Ndayisenga, with Elisabeth Ndayikengurukiye as vice-president, and Jean Paul Cishahayo as secretary. The position of communal administrator was assigned to Ntakirutimana Godelive. In the commune of Matana in the same province, elections were also held. The president of the communal council is Mr. Bucumi Firmin, his deputy is Albin Niyonsaba, and the council secretary is Agnès Ntakirutimana. Meanwhile, Gloriose Niyubahwe was elected as administrator of the commune.
In Butanyerera province, in the commune of Matongo, Janvière Kanyana, who previously led the former commune of Butaganzwa, was elected as the new administrator of Matongo. Godefroid Niyonizigiye was reappointed as administrator of the commune of Kayanza, which he had been leading until now.
The commune of Muhanga will be led by Ms. Annonciate Nizigiyimana, who had been serving as a counsellor in the ministry responsible for social solidarity.
In the commune of Kirundo, the members of the communal council elected Jean Berchimans Ndikuriyo to head the commune, while François Xavier Karenzo was elected as the new administrator of the commune of Busoni. Until now, he had served as secretary of the CNDD-FDD party in that commune and also as director of the Mukenke High School.
On his side, Dominique Ndikuryayo was appointed head of the Ngozi commune while Jean Pierre Ndikuryayo, who was the provincial director of education in Ngozi, was elected the new administrator of the Tangara commune. This happened at the same time the Kiremba commune was placed under the responsibility of Pascal Habiyaremye.
During the communal council meeting of the Kirundo commune, Mr. Jean Berchmas Ndikuriyo (Hutu), who was the director of rural engineering, irrigation, and greenhouse development within the ministry in charge of agriculture, was made administrator of the Kirundo commune in Butanyerera province (north), with 26 votes out of 26.
In Busoni commune of the same province, the communal council elected François Xavier Karenzo (Hutu) as administrator of this commune with 25 votes out of 25, representing 100% of the votes. He was the director of Mukenke high school in the former Bwambarangwe commune.
Overall, 2 of the eight new administrators of Butanyerera province are women.
Additionally, 3 are of the Tutsi ethnic group while five others are of the Hutu ethnic group.
At the level of Buhumuza province, out of the 7 communes of this province, three are led by female administrators, two of whom are Tutsi.
Indeed, Mr. Amos Ndayizamvye of Hutu ethnicity was elected administrator of Gisuru commune, Mr. Onésime Ngendandumwe of Hutu ethnicity was elected administrator of Butaganzwa commune.
Mrs. Carine Belyse Dukundane of Hutu ethnicity was elected administrator of Butihinda commune, Mrs. Diane Niyibitanga of Tutsi ethnicity was elected administrator of Ruyigi commune, Mrs. Marie Rose Nahimana of Tutsi ethnicity was elected administrator of Cankuzo commune.
On their side, Japhet Nzirubusa of Hutu ethnicity was elected to lead Gisagara commune, while Mr. Amedée Misago was elected administrator of Muyinga commune.
