National People’s Congress Gives Press Conference Ahead of the Opening of Its Annual Session

BEIJING, March 4th (AMSP/CGTN) – – China’s top legislature, the National People’s Congress, held a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday. A spokesperson spoke to the media, highlighting China’s economic achievements and foreign policy.

China’s economic performance was among the key topics highlighted at a press conference held by the nation’s top legislature, the National People’s Congress, on Tuesday.

The spokesperson stated that the resilience and potential exhibited by China’s economy was in spite of geopolitical uncertainties.

Lou Qinjian, Spokesperson for the Third Session of 14th National People’s Congress noted that China now stands at a critical juncture where new growth drivers are taking the place of old ones, adding more possibilities for expanding new spaces and creating new opportunities.

“China’s economy has grown in the wind and rain, and gets stronger through hard times. We have fully confident in its future,” he underscored.

The spokesperson added that China is moving forward with its new Private Economy Promotion Law, which will ensure equal market participation for all enterprises.

Additionally, the country has begun issuing bonds to replace 2 trillion yuan of local government debt. He also highlighted the rise of China’s home-grown AI companies. “Through the rise of companies like DeepSeek, one can see China’s innovative and inclusive approach in scientific development,” he said.

China protects the privacy security in the law and opposes to over stretching the concept of national security or politicizing economic, trade and technological issues. China has proposed the global AI governance initiative to help bridge the technological divide and prevent sci-tech innovation from becoming a game of rich countries and the wealthy, Lou Qinjian said .

On the topic of China-US relations, Lou emphasized China’s commitment toward stable bilateral ties despite the additional tariffs imposed by Washington on Chinese export products. “The US unilaterally imposing tariffs violates the rules of the World Trade Organization and disrupts the security and stability of the global industrial and supply chains. It is hoped that the US side will work in the same direction as the Chinese side and find solutions to the problems through equal consultations,” he said.

The spokesperson also touched on China’s partnership with the European Union, as well as the South-South cooperation.

2025 marks the final year of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan—a crucial period for reform and future planning. The gathering of Chinese national lawmakers is expected to engage in deeper discussions on these key topics, which will shape China’s path forward.
