MAKAMBA, April 21 (ABP) – The Technical Exchange Group (GTE) on advocacy for Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Family Planning (FP) met on Thursday, April 16, 2026, to define strategies to improve the health of young people and women, an onsite check by ABO has revealed.
The chief of staff to the office of the governor of Burunga province, Mr. Etienne Mbonihankuye, urged parents to increase the time spent in dialogue with their children regarding sexual health and the family development vision. According to Mr. Mbonihankuye, leaders of religious denominations should further contribute to raising awareness among young people, without neglecting women, regarding family planning.
Moreover, the Director of the National Reproductive Health Program (PNSR), Mr. Olivier Nijimbere, indicated that to achieve the vision of a developed Burundi, the health of young people must be improved in order to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
Participants revealed that youth-friendly health centers must be revitalized to successfully improve the sexual and reproductive health of young people.
Note that the GTE was established by the Twitezimbere association through its Sharp project, which is responsible for improving adolescent sexual health.
