Launch of the Torch of Peace, 18th edition

CIBITOKE, November 14th (ABP) – Under the theme “Burundians vote for the leaders who will guide us towards the realization of the vision of a Burundi emerging in 2040 and developed in 2060”, the Head of State, Evariste Ndayishimiye launched on the evening of Saturday November 9, 2024, before the Presidents of the National Assembly and Senate, the Prime Minister, the Ombudsman, members of the government and other dignitaries, the 18th edition of the Torch of Peace 2024.  The event took place at the Urunani stadium in Buganda, Bukinanyana commune, Bujumbura province,

On that occasion, the President of the Republic declared that the Caravan of the Torch of Peace will criss-cross the country to illuminate development work and the population, who will elect farsighted leaders with good development programs who will lead them towards the national vision of an emerging Burundi in 2040, and a developed Burundi in 2060. For President Ndayishimiye, the year 2025 marks a special departure towards the developed Burundi of 2060.

He called on administrators and communal councillors to pool and transmit their communal development plans to the newly-created 42 communes and five provinces for joint budgeting.

The Burundian President expressed the hope that the 18th edition of the Flambeau de la Paix would strengthen friendship and cohesion among Burundians, who must work together in development activities.

The Governor of Cibitoke province, Carême Bizoza, in his welcome address, pointed out that the torch is opening in his province, at a time when its population is taking advantage of peace and security to set about development, after a good turnout at the 2025 voter registration. As for the President of the “Intwararumuri” association, Épipode Baranyikwa, the 18th edition of the torch of peace caravan will tour Burundi in 22 days, illuminating 42 activities in 42 new communes that make up the five new provinces, from November 9 to 30, 2024, at the Gatwaro stadium, commune Kayanza, in Butanyerera province.
