BUTANYERERA, August 12 (ABP) – The Governor of Butanyerera Province, Victor Segasago, held a security meeting on Monday, August 4, 2025, with communal executive secretaries, heads of defense and security forces, and representatives of the judicial sector to assess the province’s security situation.

Among the key issues discussed were: illegal cross-border movements, burglaries, particularly livestock theft, alcohol abuse, and various law violations likely to undermine public safety.

Additional threats identified included road accidents, environmental damage (including recent cases of illegal grass and tree cutting in natural forests), and land dispossession of indigenous communities, notably the twa people. The governor emphasized that any illegal acquisition of land belonging to the twa people must be immediately annihilated by administrative authorities, stating that such lands are part of the State domain.

Regarding livestock theft, the governor cited a recent case involving the theft of two cows in the Gatovu zone, Tangara commune. He advised against selling animals in informal venues such as unregulated villages or slaughterhouses, stressing that these unofficial channels facilitate theft. He insisted that all transactions should occur in officially recognized markets. He also called for the strengthening of joint security committees, which could play a vital role in significantly reducing theft cases.

Concerning the ban on selling alcoholic beverages in small shops, it was noted that this measure has contributed to reducing cases of drunkenness. However, the governor urged administrative and security authorities to strictly enforce the law against anyone found in a clear state of intoxication. He also asked them to ensure strict compliance with fixed prices, especially for Brarudi products.

On environmental protection, he stressed the importance of preserving forests and reminded the public that it is strictly forbidden to cut grass in state-owned forests or to produce charcoal near natural reserves, as these activities increase the risk of wildfires during the dry season.

In conclusion, Governor Segasago called on administrative officials to enforce regulations across all sectors to ensure lasting security in the province.
