GITEGA, May 28 (ABP) – The Burundian Head of State, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, accompanied by his wife, honored with his presence the football match marking the final of the 2025 edition of the cup named in his honor, that took place on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
The final pitted the Musongati team against Flambeau du Centre, all from Gitega province in the center of the country. The match, played at Ingoma Stadium, ended with a 1–1 score, giving victory to Flambeau du Centre. A large crowd of spectators attended the event, with fans from both teams enthusiastically supporting their players using musical instruments, including a brass band.
Toward the end of the match, Musongati fans, feeling disappointed, began to leave the stadium, but the police intervened for security reasons. When the referee blew the final whistle, Flambeau fans erupted with joy, shouting and celebrating their team’s victory.
The award ceremony followed, honoring the top three teams in the tournament. Flambeau du Centre, the clear winner, received the championship trophy from the President of the Republic, a cheque for 15 million BIF, and a medal for each player.
Musongati, the runner-up, received 10 million BIF and a medal for each player.
Bumamuru, a team from Cibitoke Province (North-West), which placed third, was awarded 5 million BIF and a medal for each player.
The festivities unfolded in a joyful atmosphere. Flambeau du Centre fans, led by fanfare music, paraded through the streets of the political capital, Gitega, waving their team’s banners in celebration.
