BUJUMBURA, October 25th (ABP) – The Burundian Handball Federation (FEBUHAND) opened, on Thursday, October 24, 2024 in Bujumbura, a training camp during which players and coaches will learn various techniques to optimize their performance.
The camp is funded by the French Embassy to Burundi as part of the Project for the Emergence and Promotion of Athletes (PEPS), a check on the site ABP has revealed.
In an interview with the press at the opening of those activities, Daufin Nikobamye, chairman of FEBUHAND, indicated that this is a training course that will take place for a week with Rabah Graichi, an Algerian international expert. According to him, that expert will provide training sessions for some coaches, who will then train other coaches who did not have the opportunity to participate in the training.
The chairperson of FEBUHAND stressed that the beneficiaries of the training were chosen globally taking into account their talents and were brought together to learn new techniques that will help them in regional, continental or even world competitions.
On that occasion, he thanked the French Embassy to Burundi for taking the initiative to finance this camp, while asking the beneficiaries to follow those learning courses with interest, given that after the training, there will be theoretical sessions in the rooms.
As for the expected results, Nikobamye hopes that with the techniques acquired during the training, those athletes will do well during the regional championship of the Chanel’s Trophy for girls, which will be organized soon.
“Be attentive, disciplined and punctual. What you learn will be useful to you in the days to come. We are counting on you because we need athletes who can represent the country tomorrow or the day after tomorrow at the regional, continental and world level,” he addressed the beneficiaries of the training.
Taking the floor in turn, Jean Clément Ndione, Project Manager at the French Embassy, stressed that the goal of the project, as requested by the National Olympic Committee (CNO), is to train coaches and young athletes with a view to distinguishing themselves in regional, continental and world championships.
Note that 14 athletes (7 boys and 7 girls) from Bujumbura city and the interior of the country will benefit from this training organized from October 23 to 29, 2024.
