GITEGA, May 2 (ABP) – The CNDD-FDD party organized, on Sunday April 26, 2026, an extraordinary national congress at the Grand Seminary Jean Paul II of Gitega with the aim of adopting the resolutions resulting from the central committee meeting held on April 24 and 25, 2026 in Gitega province and of choosing the party’s candidate for the 2027 presidential elections. This congress was held under the theme: “Activists, let us unite to achieve our objective and support the actions of our leaders.”
The ceremonies were officially opened by the Secretary General of the CNDD-FDD party, Révérien Ndikuriyo, who, after welcoming the participants, also received members of delegations from friendly political parties as well as guests from abroad, namely Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa, Chad, and others.
The Secretary General of CNDD-FDD indicated that that session was held after a period of prayer and two days of evaluation retreat by the party’s central committee.
He then announced that the main objective of the session was to adopt the resolutions resulting from the central committee meeting of April 24 and 25, 2026 in Gitega province.
Among the main decisions taken by the central committee and adopted by the congress participants are notably the establishment of a one-stop export window to facilitate economic operators and the development of a five-year party plan to ensure monitoring of the implementation of the national vision. These also include the creation of a Tourism Office, the recommendation to the government to strengthen the police, exemplary sanctions against individuals hindering development, as well as the introduction of measures limiting the use of mobile phones in public services, except for professional needs, similar to certain developed countries.
Furthermore, the congress participants also analyzed the significant progress recorded in all sectors since 2020 under the leadership of the president of the Republic, Evariste Ndayishimiye. Based on this, they expressed their desire to continue on this path by designating him as the CNDD-FDD party’s candidate for the upcoming presidential election, a decision confirmed by the party’s Secretary General.

Following this nomination, the Head of State, also chairman of the council of elders of the CNDD-FDD party, took an oath before the congress participants and guests, committing himself to respect the party’s statutes and to devote himself fully to serving all Burundians, without exclusion.
After taking the oath, President Ndayishimiye expressed his gratitude to the Bagumyabanga for their renewed confidence.
He then reaffirmed his commitment to continue and accelerate the country’s development. He indicated that this designation represents a heavy responsibility that he intends to assume with determination and a sense of duty. He therefore pledged to remain a “reliable driver,” guiding the nation toward greater progress and prosperity.
He also emphasized the mobilization of all Burundians in the fight against poverty, stressing that every citizen must play an active role in improving their living conditions and in national development.
The Head of State also promised to strengthen key sectors such as security, good governance, and education. He particularly highlighted the importance of improving the quality of education in order to train a competent and responsible generation capable of ensuring Burundi’s future.
A festive atmosphere was observed in the political capital, Gitega. Groups of Bagumyabanga animated the streets with party flags and symbols, expressing satisfaction and support for their candidate.
