BUJUMBURA, May 28 (ABP) – Dogs are among the despised domestic animals in Burundi, even though they are loyal creatures once trained and taught, testified Wilson Ndayizeye in an interview with a check by ABP last Friday.
The young Ndayizeye dedicates his efforts to training and teaching dogs. This idea came to him in 2019 during a meeting with other young people experienced in this profession. Since this profession was new in Burundi, he committed to undergoing various training courses to restore value to these animals.
Apart from people not believing in his ability at first, Mr. Ndayizeye says he had to face several obstacles such as the uncontrollability of certain dogs, sometimes even being bitten. Moreover, Ndayizeye adds, one must have substantial resources to feed them because dogs are not herbivores; they eat well-prepared meat, and medical care is required three weeks after birth, one month, and every year thereafter.
He added that sometimes the mode of transportation hinders his job, since some dogs are trained at home.
He dreams that this profession will be known nationwide so that these fantastic animals have an important place in the Burundian society, in civil protection as well as in various events such as Dogshows and others.
Mr. Ndayizeye urges young people to acquire knowledge abroad and come practice it in Burundi to develop the country and create employment.
