CANKUZO, October 30th (ABP) – With sport, the consumption of a healthy diet, we protect ourselves against diabetes and high-blood pressure, according to the medical director of the health Bureau in Cankuzo province, Dr. Frédéric Faustin Irambona, during an interview.
Reports provided by health facilities show that diabetes and high-blood pressure are a reality in Cankuzo province, Dr. Fédéric Faustin Irambona revealed.
There are two types of diabetes that are common, namely type A or juvenile diabetes, also called insulin-dependent diabetes, which results from a deficiency in insulin production by the pancreas. The other type is mainly due to the individual’s lifestyle. During the acute phase, this disease manifests itself by intense thirst, excessive desire to eat, frequent urination, weight loss, etc., says Dr. Irambona.
Blindness, wounds that do not heal, loss of sensitivity, loss of libido, and kidney failure are among the complications of diabetes, he added, emphasizing that diabetes is the mother of high-blood pressure which manifests itself in excruciating headaches, generalized weakness, blurred vision, to name but a few.
When one is already attacked by type A diabetes, that is to say, genetic, Dr. Frédéric Faustin calls on the population to make available, every day, medications such as insulin, to do regular monitoring at the level of health facilities in order to check the blood sugar level.
In order to prevent type B diabetes and high-blood pressure, Dr. Frédéric Faustin advises the population to drink water and do sports but also to avoid consuming too much alcohol, avoid consuming tobacco and other drugs, to avoid eating fatty and sugary things. In addition, the population must consume a diet full of lipids, carbohydrates, proteins but of good quality for life, that is to say, all of plant origins.
He does not fail to raise awareness among the entire population to consult health providers in the event of any discomfort and to have a general health check-up every six months or later a year and to follow the advice given.
He points out that diabetes and high-blood pressure are chronic diseases; however, late complications can be avoided.
According to the World Health Organization, diabetes is the direct cause of 1.5 million deaths and 48% of all deaths due to diabetes occurred before the age of 70 in 2019.
As for high-blood pressure, the number of affected people doubled between 1990 and 2019, from 650 million to 1.3 billion. Currently, according to WHO, nearly half of the world’s high-blood pressure bearing people are unaware of it. More than three-quarters of hypertensive adults live in low- and middle-income countries.
