GITEGA, April 8th (ABP) – The governor of Gitega province (the political capital and centre of Burundi), Venant Manirambona, in the company of Gitega communal administrator Jacques Nduwimana, has brought together the administrators of the communes that make up Gitega province, as well as non-governmental organisations, partners in the development of Gitega province, with a view to discussing their appreciation and consideration of the new delimitation of the country as well as their contributions to the 2025 elections, ABP has learnt from the local press.
At that meeting, each representative of the non-governmental organisation had the opportunity to present the current situation of their organisation and what they intend to do to extend their project into the Muramvya, Mwaro and Karusi areas of the enlarged Gitega province. They pointed out that they are in the process of complying with the new administrative division, by setting up their projects in the former provinces of the enlarged Gitega province. They also indicated that they were supporting the elections.
Those partners in the development of Gitega province pointed out that in certain localities in that province, the population is not sufficiently informed about the administrative division, because, they pointed out, some people are wondering how they are going to travel two or three hours to get to the chief town of the commune, when there has been decentralisation of power. In view of the population’s concerns, they suggested that the provincial administration organise awareness-raising sessions before the elections, so that the population is informed about the contours of the new delimitation.
In response, the governor of Gitega province, Venant Manirambona, said that in most cases, people do not need to go to the commune or province in search of administrative services, because, he explained, all the services currently offered at commune level will be offered at zonal level. They will therefore turn to the zone chief or his advisers to find lasting solutions, because, he added, the zone chief will have the same skills as the current administrator.
Governor Manirambona took the opportunity to remind the administrative staff that they must work for the well-being of the population until the end of their mandate. With that in mind, Manirambona warmly thanked the Tubura and World Vision organisations for their active participation in the development of the population in the areas of agriculture and livestock.
The administrator of the commune of Gitega, Jacques Nduwimana, reminded those partners that the country would soon be entering the electoral phase. He urged them to organise their activities in line with those planned during the electoral campaign, so as not to disrupt the activities of the political parties.
