RUMONGE, January 5th (ABP) – The Anglican Diocese of Rumonge, in collaboration with the Christian organization Tearfund, distributed food aid on Friday, January 2, 2026, to 200 Congolese refugee households housed at the Makombe transit site, located in Mutambara Village, Rumonge commune, Burunga province.

The aid distributed consisted of over 11 tons of corn flour, 5 tons of beans, and 1,000 liters of palm oil, with a total estimated value of 75,745,919 BIF. Each beneficiary household received 58 kg of corn flour, 25 kg of beans, and 5 liters of cooking oil.

Taking the floor at the event, Bishop Pedasçuri Birakengana of the Anglican Diocese of Rumonge indicated that this initiative responds to the appeal launched by the Burundian government, inviting all people of good faith to come to their aid. He also emphasized that this gesture is in line with biblical teachings urging the promotion of love for one’s neighbour, especially during difficult times.

The prelate concluded by inviting the refugees to persevere in prayer for the countries of the Eastern region, so that peace and security may be restored there.
