BEIJING, December 23rd (XINHUA) – – Chinese authorities have said that the country was ready to host a “friendly, united and fruitful” Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit next year.
“China is willing to work with other SCO countries to move the organization into a new stage of high-quality development that is more united, collaborative, dynamic and productive,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday, as quoted by Xinhua.
She added that China – the founding member of the SCO – was ready to contribute the SCO’s strength to global governance and the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
China currently holds the rotating presidency of the SCO. During its tenure, China will host more than 100 meetings and events in the fields of politics, security, economy and culture, Mao said during her weekly press briefing.
She noted that the SCO had become a “regional international organization” with its widest coverage and the largest population in the world.
“It has set an example for building a new type of international relations,” she said.
Mao said SCO has always been China’s diplomatic priority and the country would utilize its presidency of the SCO to build consensus and draw a blueprint for development.
