MPANDA, April 16 (ABP) – School principals in Mpanda commune (northwest Burundi) are called on to take ownership of the constraints affecting the proper func tioning of school establishments and to prepare learners to contribute to the success of the 2040-2060 Vision.
This appeal was made by the provincial director of education (DPE), Ms. Fidélité Nibigira, during a meeting she held for them on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, according to local sources.
Some of the obstacles to the proper functioning of schools raised during the meeting include staff shortages, with 51 deserters and 26 teachers appointed to other positions. This shortage of teaching staff increases the number of volunteers, whose support places a burden on parents.
Participants in the meeting also mentioned the lack of classrooms, desks, and various materials.
The DPE of Bujumbura called on these principals to show courage and take ownership of these challenges, with a shared vision of working toward improving the quality of education and increasing the success rate. According to her, with good collaboration between parents and administrative authorities, some of these constraints can be addressed.
She urged them to transform their schools into a “Temple of God” by establishing a positive working environment, fostering fraternity and complementarity, with the aim of properly fulfilling their mission, which she described as a “mission of God.”
Another call was to instill patriotism in students, to serve as good role models for learners, and to prioritize hygiene and sanitation, according to local sources.
It should be noted that Mpanda commune has 217 schools and 101,087 students.
