NGOZI, May 3 (ABP) – Authorities in Butanyerera province call for the strengthening of coffee collection points and for combating fraud in the sector. The recommendation was made during a meeting held on April 27, 2026, by the governor, Victor Segasago, with administrative, security, and judicial officials.
Operators of washing stations, under the supervision of ODECA, are urged to facilitate access for producers located far away.
They are called upon to dispatch agents to collect coffee directly from the hills. This measure follows the arrest of individuals involved in the illegal collection of coffee. Cases of fraud have also been reported in border areas, particularly in Mparamirundi, where Burundian coffee is illicitly sold into Rwanda.
The governor asked security services to strengthen border controls to stop these practices. He also stressed the need to increase the number of collection centers in order to bring infrastructure closer to producers. Another key point is compliance with payment deadlines. Operators must pay coffee growers on time to avoid weakening their living conditions.
According to Mr. Segasago, respecting these commitments is essential to strengthen trust in the coffee sector.
