BUJUMBURA, July 30 (ABP) – The first parliamentary session for the 2025-2030 term was held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the Kigobe hemicycle, presided over by the oldest member of parliament, Joachim Barutwanayo, elected in the Gitega constituency, as stipulated by Article 175 of the Constitution. The session was held with the objective of establishing the internal rules and setting up the bureau of the National Assembly for a five-year term.
During this first parliamentary session, Joachim Barutwanayo established a commission composed of seven members to review and amend the internal rules. Note that nearly all of the 111 members of parliament, elected on June 5, 2025, throughout the country, were present.
It should also be noted that this first parliamentary session was attended by the president of the Constitutional Court and the president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).
