Burundi First Lady assists Congolese asylum seekers in Cibitoke province

The 1st Lady gives aid to the representative of Congolese asylum seekers

CIBITOKE, April 3rd (ABP) – The First Lady of Burundi, Angeline Ndayishimiye, made a working visit, on Tuesday 1 April 2025 to Cibitoke province, to assist Congolese asylum seekers accommodated at the Cibitoke zone site, Rugombo commune, and at the capital of Cibitoke province.

In her speech, Ndayishimiye indicated that she had made the visit to see the living conditions of the Congolese who had fled their country and were being welcomed in Burundi.She encouraged and comforted them, promising that she would do her utmost to visit them regularly.

Together with Bonne Action Umugiraneza Foundation, the First Lady’s institution, as part of its humanitarian mission, provided those Congolese with aid consisting of three tonnes of rice, 75 boxes of Asian date fruit, 20 boxes of biscuits and 100 boxes of Go-Fresh juice. The First Lady took the opportunity to call on other Burundian partners and benefactors to come to the aid of those Congolese refugees, estimated at 700 households comprising 6,200 people.

After handing over the aid to the Cibitoke site, the First Lady headed for Gateri in Buganda commune, to the site currently housing internally displaced persons, victims of the Gatumba floods.

Alongside the First Lady, the delegation included two ministers, a WHO representative and a representative from the UNHCR.
