MUKAZA, August 6 (ABP) – Buja Night Comedy is a project initiated by young comedians and musicians with the aim of promoting their self-development and that of others, using their talents to contribute to the realization of the country’s vision for an emerging nation by 2040 and a developed one by 2060. This was stated by Méthode Macumi and Didace Ahishakiye, known by the stage name “Munyimunyi,” two young comedians and founding members of the project, in an interview with ABP.
According to these young comedians, Buja Night Comedy began its activities in June 2025 with the objective of discovering, harnessing, and showcasing hidden talents among young people, particularly in the fields of comedy and music, which they believe can become powerful levers for development. They added that the project also aims to entertain the public every weekend, especially on Sundays.
Macumi emphasized that the comedians and musicians involved in the project are pleased with the positive reception from audiences, which has given them the motivation to carry on.
According to Ahishakiye, his ambition is to expand the project’s activities beyond Bujumbura province to the entire country, for giving the chance to talented youth based in rural areas, who may lack the means to travel to Bujumbura to showcase their potential and create opportunities for a better future.
The comedians noted that they use social media to broadcast their performances to those who cannot attend physically. Currently, they primarily use Facebook and YouTube, platforms that could eventually generate income at a relatively low cost.

Regarding the challenges they face, Macumi and Ahishakiye mentioned a lack of financial resources and essential equipment needed to organize their shows. They appealed for support from established Burundian comedians and musicians whose fame could help attract more public interest and backing for young talent.
When asked about the possibility of submitting their project to the Youth Employability and Entrepreneurship Support Program (PAEEJ), they indicated that preparations for this application are currently underway.
