Bilateral relations between Burundi and Russia are experiencing dynamic development, according to the Russian Ambassador to Burundi

BURUNDI, April 16th (ABP) – Bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Burundi and the Russian Federation is actively developing in various fields, said the Russian Ambassador to Burundi, Mr. Valéry Mikhaylov. That was during the celebration of Russian Cosmonautics Day, near the monument of Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin, the first Russian to go into space 61 years ago. That monument is located near the Russian Embassy in Burundi.

In the educational sector, Russia grants Burundi 100 scholarships annually “in a wide range of disciplines,” along with specialized training provided to Burundian military personnel and law enforcement officers, he added.

Regarding health, a ceremony marking the handover of a mobile laboratory for the detection and monitoring of infectious diseases took place in Bujumbura on June 27 of last year, he mentioned, before specifying that joint work to establish a national emergency operations center is currently underway.

In the energy sector, Mr. Mikhaylov stated that a Russo-Burundian cooperation agreement in the sector of peaceful nuclear energy use was signed in July 2023 in Saint Petersburg. That document covers various areas, including assistance in the development of nuclear infrastructure in Burundi, legal regulation regarding nuclear and radiological safety, fundamental and applied research, as well as training specialists in the nuclear sector.

Expressing his satisfaction with those achievements that strengthen the cooperation between the two countries, the Russian Ambassador to Burundi stated that “all those events testify to the dynamic development of Russo-Burundian relations and their mutual desire to enhance cooperation in various fields.
