NGOZI, April 16 (ABP) – The governor of Butanyerera province, Victor Segasago, held a me eting on Monday, April 13, 2026, for advisors, provincial directors, and heads of services recently appointed in the various ministries operating in the province, as well as communal administrators, in order to remind them of their responsibilities.
During the said meeting, Governor Segasago announced a measure prohibiting motorcycles without license plates from circulating in Butanyerera province, due to their involvement in insecurity and road accidents.
According to statements from administrative and security officials present, motorcycles without plates have seen a worrying increase in recent days, particularly in the cities of Ngozi, Kirundo, and Kayanza. They also reported that these vehicles often carry more than two passengers.
Security sources also indicated that the drivers of these motorcycles are frequently involved in smuggling activities. The absence of license plates further complicates the work of law enforcement in identifying and prosecuting offenders. These motorcycles also contribute to the rise in traffic accidents.
In response to this situation, the governor instructed law enforcement agencies to take measures to remove these motorcycles from circulation. Regarding reported cases of motorcycles belonging to certain public and private institutions operating without plates, he urged them to set a good example by regularizing their vehicles.
He also recommended that the relevant services speed up the process of issuing license plates in order to allow own ers to carry out their activities legally.
Taking advantage of this meeting, which was also organized to establish contact with newly appointed provincial officials under ministerial decrees to head departments and services, the governor offered them advice, emphasizing that the future of the country cannot be entrusted to other generations.
He stressed that it is up to current leaders to ensure its realization, calling on everyone to get resolutely to work and to provide concrete solutions to the challenges within their respective sectors of responsibility.
