MURAMVYA, October 1st (ABP) – The Ministry of Communication, Information Technology and Media has been organizing a workshop for journalists since Monday, September 30, 2024, in Muramvya with the aim of raising awareness of their role in the vision of Burundi, an emerging country by 2040 and developed country in 2060, as announced by the Director General of Communication and Media, Oscar Nzohabonayo.
“Journalists play a key role in achieving Burundi’s vision of becoming an emerging country by 2040 and developed country in 2060,” he said at the opening of the workshop.
He encouraged them to disseminate or relay information that meets the needs and expectations of the population who only want to be well informed.
In his welcoming speech, Egide Niyimbeshaho, legal advisor to the office of the governor of Muramvya province, returned to the important role of journalists in the run-up to the 2025 and 2027 elections.
He insisted on the fact that the media must be active in raising awareness, educating and promoting information among the population in order to ensure informed and responsible participation in the election process.
Niyongabo also indicated that this workshop represents a valuable opportunity for Burundian journalists in the sense that it will strengthen their skills. The latter will then contribute to better understanding the role to be played in the development of the country.
