MAKAMBA, April 22 (ABP) – The cervical cancer vaccination campaign is scheduled to take place from April 28 to 30, 2026, in Burunga province.
The medic director of the Burunga health province, Mr. Jérôme Niyongabo, announced this on Monday, April 20, 2026, in Makamba during a community mobilization meeting involving administrative officials, representatives of political parties, religious denominations, and civil society organizations, a check on site by ABP has revealed.
Mr. Niyongabo indicated that this vaccination campaign is organized for girls aged 9 to 14.
The governor of Burunga province, Mr. Parfait Mboninyibuka, asked participants to relay the information to the population so that no girl eligible for the cervical cancer vaccine is left unvaccinated.
Governor Mboninyibuka encouraged government initiatives aimed at improving the population’s health.
He stated that the expected number is 194,262 girls, including 13,240 who are not enrolled in school.
The cervical cancer vaccine was introduced in Burundi during a pilot phase in the health districts of Rumonge and Ngozi in 2019. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women, he said.
