MWARO, March 25 (ABP) – The Vice President of the Republic of Burundi, Prosper Bazombanza, met on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the headquarters of Mwaro commune, with local administrative officials to assess the functioning of public services and strengthen governance.

The discussions focused in particular on the organization of services, the establishment of consultative bodies, and the progress of development projects aligned with the national vision 2040-2060. According to the Vice President of the Republic, these mechanisms constitute essential levers to support the effective implementation of public policies.

During that meeting, Mr. Bazombanza specified that the said field visit aimed to ensure the effective involvement of sector officials in their missions. He took the opportunity to recall Burundi’s ambitions to become an emerging country by 2040 and a developed country by 2060, based on pillars such as state commitment, economic efficiency, social equity, environmental preservation, and the promotion of sustainable partnerships.

In this context, he insisted on the need to establish, as soon as possible, consultative bodies intended to support the communal administration. Among these are notably a committee responsible for infrastructure maintenance, a community development committee, as well as a committee to combat corruption and economic malpractice.

Addressing the issue of taxation, the Vice President of the Republic urged administrative officials to ensure rigorous collection of taxes and duties, in strict compliance with the legislation in force. He emphasized that this approach aims to strengthen tax discipline and guarantee the resources necessary to finance development projects. As an example, Prosper Bazombanza himself paid his property tax at the BGF bank operating in Mwaro commune, thus illustrating the importance of tax compliance.
