BUJUMBURA, December 19th (ABP) – A Burundian has been appointed to the Management Committee of the African Cycling Confederation (CAC). The appointee is Arnaud Patrick Iryumugabo, the former president of the Burundi Cycling Federation.
During a press conference held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, to mark the occasion, Mr. Iryumugabo noted that this appointment represents an opportunity to open the doors of African cycling to Burundian youth, athletes, technical officials, and the entire Burundian sporting community.
He expressed his commitment to “strengthening Burundi’s presence in international competitions and attracting major continental or regional cycling events to our country.” He also intends to “advocate for training programs for young cyclists, referees, mechanics, and coaches.”
Mr. Iryumugabo believes that Burundi could become a strategic hub for cycling in Africa. To achieve this, he announced his intention to work toward “establishing an official CAC regional headquarters in Burundi.” Furthermore, he mentioned that throughout this process, he will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Sports, the National Olympic Committee (NOC), and all partner institutions to successfully carry out this mission.
