The CNDD-FDD on top of the rank in the communal election results in Gitega and Buhumuza provinces

GITEGA/BUHUMUZA, June 12 (ABP) – The CNDD-FDD party won first place in the provisional results of the communal elections of June 5, 2025, in the provinces of Gitega (the political capital and center of Burundi) and Buhumuza, a check on site by ABP has revealed.

In Gitega province, the provisional results of the communal elections were announced by Mr. Joseph Maniraho, president of the CEPI Gitega, in the evening of Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in the presence of political party representatives, candidates in the elections, and civil society organizations.

Mr. Maniraho stated that, out of the 225 seats for communal councilors in the various communes of the extended Gitega province, the CNDD-FDD party won 217, representing 93.85%. The UPRONA party came in second with 3.28%, securing 7 seats out of 225, specifically two seats in Gitega commune and one in each of the communes of Bugendana, Kiganda, Muramvya, Mwaro, and Nyabihanga. The third-place party was CNL, with 2.29%, winning a single seat in the Gitega communal council.

Mr. Maniraho further pointed out that other competing political parties did not reach the 2% threshold needed to secure a seat on the communal council. These parties included PIEBU, which received 0.22%; Palipe Agakiza, which received 0.14%; MSP Inkinzo, which received 0.17%; and the parties ADR Imvugakuri and RADEBU, which each received 0.01%. Independent candidate Mathieu Katihabwa received 0.04% in the Kiganda commune. According to Maniraho, there were 0.94% of null votes and 1.46% abstentions.

Based on these results, Mr. Maniraho, the President of CEPI Gitega, indicated that the conduct of the election was characterized by strict respect for rights and freedoms, ensuring transparency and fairness. He also praised Burundians for their contribution to the success of the election.

In Buhumuza Province, Mrs. Evelyne Ndayisenga, president of the CEPI Buhumuza, announced the provisional results of the communal council elections held on June 5, 2025 on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. The session took place at the Cankuzo headquarters, reported a check by ABP.

In all seven communes of Buhumuza province, six political parties competed in Muyinga commune, while the CNDD-FDD party ran alone in Gisuru commune for the communal elections.

Indeed, out of the 175 seats available, the CNDD-FDD party won 168, the UPRONA party secured 6 seats, and the CNL party obtained 1 seat, as announced by Mrs. Evelyne Ndayisenga. She further clarified that the UPRONA party won seats in the communes of Butaganzwa, Ruyigi, Cankuzo, and Gisagara, while the CNL party won a seat in the Cankuzo commune.

Therefore, out of the 877,380 registered voters for these elections in Buhumuza province, 863,045 valid votes were cast, while 6,770 votes were null and 14,075 voters abstained.

Mrs. Evelyne Ndayisenga took the opportunity to thank all partners for their contribution to the smooth conduct of these elections.
