BUJUMBURA, March 11th (ABP) – The people from Nyabugete III neighborhood stand united to fight erosion by building gutters during this rainy season, as ABP observed on-site during a visit to the Nyabugete III neighborhood.
According to the construction coordinator, Engineer Arsène Nzeyimana, the gutter-construction project is a community initiative following the runoff water that is destroying roads and fences in the locality due to the lack of gutters.
Mr. Nzeyimana announced that with the efforts and support of local administrative officials, activities are progressing remarkably well, even though some people are fighting against the project. He added that challenges include a lack of financial resources, as residents of the locality lack sufficient means, making it difficult to continue normal activities.
Furthermore, he said, REGIDESO’s pipes are poorly placed, making moving them a difficult task. He called on OBUHA and the Ministry responsible for Infrastructure to make field visits and financially support this initiative, as the work is more complex.
Note that each household is asked to contribute 760,000 BIF.
