KAYANZA, January 7th (ABP) – Fourteen health care providers have deserted over the last six months in the northern health province of Kayanza, according to Dr Pascal Niyonzima, the provincial physician in Kayanza.
According to information obtained from the provincial health office in Kayanza, those 14 health care providers, who have handed in their aprons over the last six months, were all from the Kayanza health district.
The provincial doctor points out that some of the deserters have gone on to work in private health structures, while others have gone abroad to pursue specialization studies in various health sectors.
That health authority in Kayanza points out that that has a negative impact on the quality of services provided to patients who entrust themselves to the province’s public health structures.
He gives the example of a woman who almost gave up the ghost at Musema hospital in Butaganzwa commune, when she went there to give birth, due to the lack of qualified personnel in the field. To save her life, it was decided to refer her to the autonomous hospital in Ngozi,” says the provincial doctor in Kayanza.
He therefore calls on the Ministry in charge of public health and the fight against AIDS, and the Government, to provide public health structures with other qualified employees to replace those who have already handed in their aprons, in order to restore their image.
