BUJUMBURA, December 6th (ABP) – On Wednesday 4 December 2024, the President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in Bujumbura a delegation of Nigerian businessmen, led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who had come to take part in the round table of development partners and private investors, which will take place from 5 to 6 December 2024.
In an interview with the press following the audience, the Head of State’s spokesperson, Rosine Guilène Gatoni, said that the audience had given the former Nigerian Head of State the opportunity to assess the progress made by Burundi since his last visit in 1960. He congratulated the President of the Republic and the people of Burundi for the little-known beauties of Burundi, which are still being discovered by the outside world. He appreciated Burundi’s natural assets, in particular its geographical panorama, but also its strategic position, which offers immense opportunities, he added.
The former Nigerian head of state came with a message for the President of the Republic of Burundi. ‘Mr. President of the Republic of Burundi, your vision of Burundi’s emergence is possible and achievable. And on that road, Nigeria will be with you’, Obasanjo reassured the audience.
That message was enthusiastically received by the President of the Republic of Burundi, who did not fail to share with him the state of affairs in Burundi, especially its natural assets in the agricultural, mining and tourism sectors, but also from an economic point of view, according to the President’s spokesman.
Nigeria is one of Africa’s major economic powers, and that meeting was an opportunity for him, as a former Head of State, to share his experience of strategies for accelerating the economic development to which Burundi aspires through the vision of Burundi as an emerging country by 2040 and a developed country by 2060.
