China Pledges Efforts to Prevent Syria’s Crisis

Beijing (TDI), December 3rd (AMSP/CGTN) – – Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed concerns on Monday regarding the security situation in Syria, following reports of escalating violence between Syrian government forces and rebels in Aleppo and Idlib.

Lin acknowledged the deteriorating security conditions, noting that the Syrian Defense Ministry had reported gunfire exchanges between government forces and rebels last week.

The Chinese embassy in Syria has issued a security alert and is actively monitoring the situation.

The embassy has urged local authorities to take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and institutions.

Lin advised Chinese nationals in Syria to heighten their personal security and, if necessary, move to safer areas or evacuate the country.

In the event of emergencies, citizens have been encouraged to contact the embassy for assistance.

When asked about China’s engagement with the Syrian government in response to the ongoing crisis, Lin reiterated China’s deep concern over the situation in northwestern Syria.

He affirmed China’s support for Syria’s efforts to maintain national security and stability, emphasizing China’s stance as a friendly nation to Syria.

He further stated that China is committed to making positive efforts to prevent the situation from worsening.

Recent Violence in Syria

The recent violence has seen a major rebel offensive in the western countryside of Aleppo, marking the first significant attack in the area since 2016.

The offensive, launched by a coalition of rebel groups including the al-Qaeda-linked Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, aimed to penetrate government-held territories.

The rebels made significant advances, capturing key areas in Aleppo, Idlib, and Hama provinces by the weekend.
