China-Russia East-Route Gas Pipeline Fully Operational

Beijing (TDI), December 3rd (AMSP/CGTN) – – The China-Russia east-route natural gas pipeline, the largest single-line gas transmission project in China, has been fully connected and is now operating at full capacity, its operator announced on Monday.

According to the China Oil & Gas Pipeline Network Corporation (PipeChina), the pipeline boasts an annual transmission capacity of 38 billion cubic meters.

Spanning 3,000 kilometers in Russia and 5,111 kilometers in China, it is a key project in China-Russia energy cooperation, Xinhua reported.

The China section of the pipeline starts in Heihe, a northeastern city bordering Russia, and extends south to Shanghai, the country’s economic hub.

The fully operational pipeline significantly bolsters natural gas supply capacity and emergency peak-shaving capabilities in eastern China, a densely populated region.

PipeChina described the development as a milestone, completing the eastern energy corridor and enhancing energy security.

China-Russia Gas Pipeline CapacitySince the northern section began operations in December 2019, the pipeline has transmitted over 80 billion cubic meters of natural gas, benefiting approximately 450 million people along its route.

This project is the third cross-border long-distance natural gas pipeline supplying China, following the China-Central Asia and China-Myanmar pipelines, and further strengthens the country’s energy cooperation with its neighbors.
