MAKAMBA, December 2nd (ABP) – On Thursday, November 28, 2024, the Minister of the Interior, Community Development and Public Security, Martin Niteretse, met with administrative officials, representatives of the justice system, leaders of political parties, associations and religious leaders, as well as notables from the extended communes of Makamba and Nyanza in Burunga province, for a morality session.

During the session, Minister Niteretse reminded participants of what needed to be done to achieve Burundi’s national vision of an emerging country by 2040 and a developed country by 2060.

He called on the people, and especially civil servants, to engage in an income-generating activity so as to have something to sell. If you have something to sell, you become self-sufficient.

He pointed out that the fight against fraud must be the business of every citizen. With that in mind, he warned hill chiefs that in the district where a fraudster is apprehended, the village leader of that locality will be stripped of his duties.  He also asked hill chiefs to assist the elderly on their villages.

The Minister of the Interior also warned village leaders against acting as judges. He reminded them that their role is to ensure conciliation between people in conflict.

In her welcome address, the governor of Makamba province, Mrs Tantine Ncutinamagara, announced that there are land disputes, cases of chemical fertilizer fraud and people, especially children, being turned away from Tanzania for not entering without proper documentation.

Minister Niteretse advised the people  to remain calm and avoid misunderstandings of any kind.

To achieve the vision of 2040 and 2060, everyone must respect three things: the citizen, the codes and laws in force in Burundi, and the integrity of Burundi.
