CIBITOKE, December 2nd (ABP) – The first 39 families affected by last year’s floods in Gatumba, Bujumbura province, arrived in Gateri, Buganda commune, Cibitoke province, on the evening of Thursday November 28, 2024.
That followed their relocation to Rusagara, in the Mubimbi commune of Bujumbura province. A total of 64 people were relocated, the majority of them women and children. They were welcomed by members of the Provincial Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PFPRRGC), who took their roll, before installing them in the emergency shelters prepared for them.
On their faces, they were relieved and happy to leave the Rusagara site that had previously housed them. According to information gathered on the site, others will continue to arrive, up to some 600 families, who will be sheltered at the Gateri II site, in Buganda commune.
