CIBITOKE, April 8th (ABP) – A total of 700 Congolese refugee households in the Cishemere camp in Buganda commune and in the Cibitoke area received food and non-food aid worth 300 million BIF on Sunday 6 April from the NGOs Tearfund and Help Channel Burundi, and the Anglican Church of Burundi, according to local sources.  The aid consisted of one bucket per household, toilet paper, soap, blankets, five cups, five plates, a ladle, a knife, a tarpaulin, 40 kilos of maize flour and 16 kilos of beans for a large family, and 20 kilos of maize flour and eight kilos of beans for a smaller family.

Tearfund’s Country Director, Désiré Majambere, thanked ONPRA for its cooperation in that charitable initiative. He encouraged the refugees to remain hopeful, because their difficult living conditions will one day change. He urged them to make good use of the kits.

The ONPRA coordinator thanked the three organisations that had listened to his plea to come to the aid of those Congolese people, who have fled their country following the war in the east of the DRC. He told the refugees that they would soon be taken to a refugee camp to benefit from their rights.

The refugee representative praised the initiative of the organisations Tearfund, Help Channel Burundi and the Anglican Church of Burundi, and asked them to continue making the same gesture to other refugees.
