BUJUMBURA, Oct 10 (ABP) – The president of the Republic of Burundi, Évariste Ndayishimiye, officially launched on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, within the premises of the former VERRUNDI, the export to China of 260 tons of Burundian minerals consisting of amethyst and green quartz. According to information gathered on-site, these minerals, extracted from three former provinces of the country: Kirundo, Bubanza and Bururi include 156 tons of amethyst and 104 tons of green quartz.
In an interview with the press, the Head of State stated that Burundi is a country rich in natural resources, with a promising subsoil and favorable climate. He added that, given the richness of the subsoil and the potential of Burundian youth: skilled, dynamic, and knowledgeable in the mining sector, the government chose to collaborate with them for the extraction of these resources, as part of a 100-day operation launched on July 27.
President Ndayishimiye also revealed that the extraction work showed that nearly the entire Burundian subsoil contains minerals, often accessible without deep drilling. He noted that young people continue to extract these minerals in several parts of the country and that other shipments will soon be exported.
Regarding the use of revenue from this export, the Head of State explained that the funds would be used notably to import products unavailable in Burundi and to acquire infrastructure for the processing industry of raw materials, which were previously exported and processed elsewhere.
He also called on the population to report any discovery of new deposits so they can be exploited legally and transparently, thereby contributing to the country’s development.

However, President Ndayishimiye warned against those who, in the past, exploited minerals without paying taxes to the State. He announced that audits would be conducted, specifying that those unable to present a satisfactory record of their operations would be excluded, while those who can will benefit from a fair agreement with the State.
Finally, the Head of State recalled that the year 2025 marks the first step toward achieving the national vision and urged Burundians to work harder to bring foreign currency into the country. He assured that the transport of the exported minerals would be secure and that the generated revenues would be communicated to the population.
