The launch took place on the occasion of the closing ceremony of the training for survey enumerators.

According to Ndayishimiye, this survey will make it possible to update the poverty profile of Burundi, whose most recent data dates back to 2019-2020, and to assess improvements in living conditions, as well as progress made in development and climate resilience.

Regarding national coverage, the survey will provide representativeness down to the commune level. A total of 1,418 enumeration areas have been selected across all communes of the country, and 17,016 households will be surveyed.

The target groups include ordinary households, including returnee households and refugees living in communities, as well as the seven refugee camps located in Burundi, where 963 households will be randomly selected.

Data collection will take place from March 2026 to February 2027, following a preparatory phase that began in March 2025. Data processing and analysis are scheduled for March 2027, while publication of the results will take place in May 2027.

The Director General of INSBU emphasized that the success of this operation will depend on the active involvement of the local administration at all levels, which is called upon to raise public awareness about the role and importance of the survey. He also welcomed the contribution of technical and financial partners as well as the role of the media in mobilizing citizens.

He urged all stakeholders to actively participate in the success of this important national activity in order to obtain reliable statistics to serve development.
