RUTANA, Feb 16 (ABP) – Sixteen students from the faculty of administration and business management of the University of the Great Lakes of Rutana, currently undertaking an internship at Rutana commune in Burunga province, say that they are satisfied with this experience, which allows them to put into practice the knowledge acquired at university and gain useful skills for their future professional life. They revealed this in an interview given to ABP on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
These students indicate that in just ten days spent within the commune, they have already learned a great deal, particularly about the procedures for drafting, safeguarding and managing communal finances, in accordance with the laws governing public finances. They state that they have strengthened their skills, especially in preparing documents relating to revenue and expenditure, issuing invoices, as well as using accounting registers.
Buraziyo Nivyimana, one of the interns, said: “We studied accounting at university, but it is here that we truly put theory into practice. We are learning to work as a team and to respect the rules governing the management of public funds.”
For her part, the head of the accounting department at Rutana commune, Mrs. Marie Claire Nyandwi, points out that hosting interns is an opportunity to prepare them for their future professional integration. She encourages them to carefully follow the explanations given and to ask questions for various aspects they may not understand, in order to better grasp practical concepts. She expressed satisfaction with the progress already made by these students and hopes that at the end of the two-month internship, they will be fully capable of applying the knowledge acquired.
Nevertheless, these students request that the duration of internships be extended to allow them to further deepen their learning. They also wish that other institutions would agree to host interns, noting that their applications are often rejected, which limits opportunities for practical training before the completion of their studies.
